What do you think is the most feared word in the English language?
The obstacle most frequently represented is the word 'NO.' When you encounter a 'no' in your life, how do you react? Do you take it with a positive attitude or not?
Taking a 'no' with a positive attitude means accepting a negative response without pouting, resentment, anger, or irritation. It also means staying focused on your goals and strengthening your resolve and intent to get what you want or be happy.
Just how do you take a "no" positively? You can do this by incorporating the Law of Averages, which is a lay term used to express the view that everything will even out eventually. This also leads to a better understanding of the reality of life - that the road to success or happiness isn't always going to be smooth sailing. And, part of this reality is accepting the fact that in goal attainment, you need to learn how to handle the inevitable word 'no.' -Self Improvement
Here are some ideas on how to handle a negative answer:
The first step is to find out how effective you are in making a request or giving a command. You can do this by practicing and approaching as many people as you can. The more people you ask, the more chances you have in learning how to get that 'yes' response you so desire.
After making each request, you need to examine and learn from the result you got. Did you get a "yes" or "no"? Why? What did you do right or wrong? Were you nice or mean about making the request? Appreciative or cold hearted? Did you approach the right person for that specific request? -Self Improvement
If your batting average is zero, you're doing something very wrong and it signals the need to change your method of asking for or making requests. There's always a reason someone says "no" to you. It all depends on what you ask for and how effectively you ask for it. Also, what's in it for the other person? How do they benefit?
Keep in mind that there are people who always respond affirmatively to requests. By nature, these people are helpful and just can't say "no."
The best way to get a "yes" is to create a win-win situation. Consider the request itself. It should be reasonable and must be asked in a courteous manner. Make it known to the person how the request will help in the attainment of their objectives, as well as yours. They will be more than willing to help because it'll make them feel more important and significant. They will also see the benefits they get out of helping you.
Just got a rejection? Relax! It is not the end of the world.
You may still be able to turn it into a 'yes' by giving an assurance, guarantee, or more proof of your sincerity. As much as possible, give someone ample time to think things over. Never pressure someone to decide in your favor. People have a tendency to reject a request much quicker if they feel undue pressure being placed on them.
Nobody likes to hear the word "no" but it's inevitable in life. One thing is sure - it is possible to turn a negative response into a "yes" if your request is reasonable and also beneficial to the other person.
